About this deal

To be fair, I've only really used my router for putting nice edges on right-angled pieces of wood, plus my latest attempt at a rabbet. On most rabbeting bits, the carbide cutter extends proud only on the top and has relief angles ground in the carbide to reduce burning.

Is it because a trim router and a 1/4" bit would just find that too hard, even if I did multiple passes? Cove bits produce a concave quarter-circle that’s essentially the inverse profile of the rounding-over shape. As the name implies, V-groove bits groove out a V-shaped profile in a piece of material, often to produce a decorative effect.

They can even be used in place of more specialized bits (like rabetting, described below), which contributes to their impressive versatility.

This occurs in cabinetry construction to make drawers and cabinet backs as well as to join the tops of cabinets to cabinet sides. The double rounding-overs bits cut the bottom and top edge simultaneously, making a full half-round profile. A better base for your purposes is the plunge base, which can be set up to allow repeatable depth cuts. The standard glue joint joins squared edges, while the mitered bit is made with a 45-degree angle to join two mitered edges. The two cuts meet precisely at the inside corner of the rabbet, thereby cutting out an L-shaped notch. Our rebate bits produce beautiful shavings, not the saw dust typical of inferior quality rebate router bits. Both classical and double ogee designs are available, with the latter containing two ogee patterns often separated by a squared transition.
