About this deal
Even though he’s quite old (19 years older than her), he is still so hot and has a young soul, but also very mature and responsible.

While Pike is being a guilt-ridden drama queen in denial, his best friend gave no fucks😂 I appreciated that.He offers her a wish, a wish that we as readers are left to ponder as we don't get any clear answers.
BIRTHDAY GIRL – Pen Douglas
Now I am not going to lie, that it was a bit of a page turner and I was compelled by the story but I kinda felt flat at the end, because the way everyone talks about it like its their best read of the year and after reading this one, its on the lower tatum pole of books I have read this year. Even if his 600 paged books talk about nothing much but with his genuine, amazing writing style I am all for it. OK, I usually LOVE the protective guy trope so this book had me loving this aspect BUT THEN HE COULD BE HER DAD!Birthday Girl was a story that I have so excited for and this is a very hyped up book and I honestly didn’t give it a second thought when I saw this book and I just had to grab it up. Amo a Murakami pero sigo pensando que su fuerte siempre serán las novelas y los ensayos; los cuentos no explotan todo su potencial.
Birthday Girl - Kindle edition by Douglas, Penelope
The story feels great in every aspect, that is unless you look at some of Murakami's other works, and that's when a slight disappointment starts to creep into your veins. El estilo de Penelope Douglas es sencillo, directo y lleno de acciones (más que diálogos internos, y aun y todo, no se hacen pesados nunca). Don’t doubt yourself, don’t second-guess, don’t let fear hold you back, don’t be lazy, and don’t base your decisions on how happy it will make others. When she doesn’t want to sleep with him or be intimate, he barely resists and blames her for all his shit and how he’s not good enough for her (because he clearly isn’t) and how she has her shit together (because obviously, she does as she’s not lazy and she’s also not a loser like him. When she was dating her boyfriend who is Pikes SON she was having fantasies about PIKE THE FATHER OF HER BOYFRIEND. It was meant to be written that she was mature because of the things she had been through, but it didn't really work. No entiendo el hecho de cambiar el POV, además, pues prácticamente todos los encuentros son narrados desde el punto de vista de Pike, y yo personalmente me esperaba lo contrario.

But it also brings a whole lot more complications in the form of an interaction to her boyfriend's young father that seems to only intensify over time. She’s actually pretty great and I admire her resilience, her perseverance, and her apparent independence.
There was the mystery of her past and how it affects her future, but I found there to be no suspense whatsoever.
