Robert apperared regularly on Charlie Higson & Paul Whitehouse’s Sony Award-winning Radio 4 series, Down the Line, as well as their BBC2 show, Bellamy’s People. He also appeared in Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s movie, Hot Fuzz, saying just three words – “I’m not Janine”, and worked in Los Angeles as a writer on Sacha Baron Cohen’s movie, Bruno. Reynolds, Charlie (28 November 2020). "The Herts school where Borat actor and Matt Lucas were pupils". HertsLive . Retrieved 14 March 2021. For several years, Robin Cooper has been plaguing department stores, hotels, associations, fan clubs and a certain children's book publisher with his letters. Audible, the world’s leading provider of spoken-word entertainment, is to release The Timewaster Letters Compendium by Robert Popper (aka ‘Robin Cooper’) on 18th February 2021. The production brings together the cult classics The Timewaster Letters and Return Of The Timewaster Letters in audio for the first time, with Dawn French, Peter Serafinowicz and Popper performing. What makes these letters glorious is the flawless deadpan of Cooper's style - 'Thank you ever so much for your charming letter of 12 March (the date, incidentally, of my mother's birthday!) But that is, sadly, irrelevant' - which engenders entirely serious responses - 'Dear Mr Cooper, I'm afraid we have been unable to identify the manufacturer of your wife's hair station and are therefore unable to help you'. Robert has written on a number of shows, including BBC’s BAFTA-winning Harry & Paul, and The Peter Serafinowicz Show. He has also script-edited some of the country’s most exciting comedy programmes, including the multi award-winning The Inbetweeners, Graham Linehan’s EMMY award-winning IT Crowd, Peep Show series 5, 6 & 7 and Him & Her. Sometimes you simply have to read who he is writing to and it just makes you laugh. ‘The romantic novelists association’ excellent, this should be good. The massive best-selling Timewaster Letters books featured the wonderfully silly letters of Robin Cooper (a.k.a. Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper) in which he shared his madcap ideas - and even madcapper inventions - with everyone from the British Halibut Association to the Peanut Council. The resulting replies, as well as Cooper’s replies-to-these-replies, had a nation in hysterics.

Popper created, wrote and produced six series of the Channel 4 sitcom Friday Night Dinner. Series 1 aired from February to April 2011 and won the Rose D'or Award for Best Sitcom. It received two BAFTA nominations and four British Comedy Award nominations. A new audio version of Robert Popper's hit prank books The Timewaster Letters and Return Of The Timewaster Letters has been recorded. If you are in Australia or New Zealand (DVD Region 4), note that almost all DVDs distributed in the UK by the BBC and 2entertain are encoded for both Region 2 and Region 4. The UK and Australasia are in the same Blu-ray region (B). I bought a cross-trainer to keep fit. I suppose that it's not enough to just buy it. Sarah MillicanI will definitely be on the look out for Peep. Have a wonderful New Years Eve and coming year Mr. W. I used to watch BBC all the time. But now we get BBCA but I found recently that the same shows are there. My Brit friends don’t believe I just discovered Dr Who. We go more for violence here. I did take an online course through BBC . Classic Theatre , I , Claudius it was. I will be on the look out for Peep Show. Is there any violence at all? Hello, it's Robin Cooper here. How are you? I'm in fine fettle. In fact, so fine a fettle am I in, that I've just whistled thrice.

I have never before felt so utterly let down and lied to by a bunch of cover acclamations. “Downright hilarious”, claim the Observer and “the funniest book you’ll read this year” state the Guardian. Ugh. I should have guessed, I suppose, when I saw the other acclaims written by comedians such as Avid Merrion (of Bo’ Selecta! fame) and Matt Lucas. The truth is, I simply don’t find them funny. I would rather not be slapped in the face with silliness and blatancy, but that is a personal preference. Both series won the British Comedy Award for Best Comedy, and Popper won a BAFTA for series 4. Popper was the script editor on all three series of The Inbetweeners. [5] He was also the script editor on Graham Linehan's The IT Crowd and the BBC3 comedy Him & Her. Popper wrote on the fourteenth series of South Park; he was signed up by creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker following a week-long brainstorming session, and worked on the final four episodes of the first half-season. [7] Dawn French rose to fame as one half of the comedy duo French and Saunders with Jennifer Saunders, appearing first in Channel 4’s The Comedy Strip Presents before debuting the hit series French & Saunders in 1987. French’s roles in Murder Most Horrid, The Vicar of Dibley and Jam and Jersualem cemented her place as one of the UK’s top comedians. She has written a number of bestselling books and recently released an Audible Original podcast, Titting About, with Saunders.

A complete collection of some of the absurd letters the author has written to various organisation. As well as inhabiting the skin of his hi-pitched alter-ego, Robert Popper co-created Look Around You with Peter Serafinowicz, produced the third and fourth series of Peep Show, and a whole lot more. The best ones are when there is actual correspondence from the poor unfortunate who has to deal with these letters

In 2009 Popper and Serafinowicz wrote, produced, and performed in a 30-minute podcast entitled The Other Side. The comedy purported to be a radio show coming from the only radio station ("Radio Spiritworld") to broadcast from the afterlife. Robert and Peter also created the online world religion, " Tarvuism", making a variety of shorts. The pair created a number of web videos on YouTube showcasing their surreal humour, including "Birds of Britain", "Markets of Britain" and "Intermission". [ citation needed] There’s always plenty of violence at the BBC! If it’s violence you’re after then I recommend Series 2 and 3 of Bottom from the 1990s. Otherwise, recent show such as Blue Planet II are a tad more peaceful. I also recommend Mark Kermode’s film review show on BBC radio. As for Peep Show, that wasn on Channel 4 over here, I’m afraid. It’s probably on YouTube illegally as well, though! There are a few moments that raised the odd smile – I liked his letter to the Halibut Society, for instance, and I did laugh out loud once (but only once – and I forget why). The humour here though just doesn’t work. Cooper simply tries too hard to be funny and it comes out forced, obvious and looking a little pathetic. In an attempt at making the recipients look foolish, all he actually manages to do is to make himself look like a childish, attention seeking, asinine idiot and in actual fact, the beneficiaries come out of this remarkably well. In December 2008, Robert set up his own production company, Popper Pictures, to make comedy TV shows. The Timewaster Letters is about busybody Robin Cooper, who keeps himself occupied by sending a relentless series of twee, but thoroughly idiotic and regularly inexplicable, letters to businesses, organisations, and whoever else he decides to in his spare time.
