All her life, she has been plotting to steal the crown jewels, and now she needs Ben’s help… Teaching Ideas and Resources: English

Draw a map of the Tower of London and use it to show how Ben and his granny might have broken in to the Jewel House. I hate spending time with her,” protested Ben. “Her TV doesn’t work, all she wants to do is play Scrabble and she stinks of cabbage!”Her grandson Ben despairs of being sent to his dull grandmother's house every Friday night by his parents (played David Walliams and Miranda Hart) while they go ballroom dancing. Raj tries to sell some Cornettos with a Best Before date of 15th November 1996. Find out what might happen to food after their best-before dates. How do we keep different types of food fresh for as long as possible? Ben wants to be a plumber when he is older. What jobs might you like to do when you are an adult? What skills does each job require? At the same time, Ben's parents Mike ( David Walliams) and Linda ( Miranda Hart), who are dance fanatics and aware of Ben's passion for plumbing are encouraged by his lie that the noises they heard when he returned home through his bedroom window (after sneaking out to see Granny) was actually him dancing, so decide to enter him into a ballroom dancing competition as a partner to Florence ( India Ria Amarteifio). Granny's local neighbours, Mr Parker ( Rob Brydon) and his son (George Hill), watch over Ben's movements to and from Granny's house and suspect that the duo are up to no good.

Together Granny and Ben watched the little brown car race off, leaping over the speed bumps. Mum and Dad didn’t like spending time with her any more than Ben did. It was just a convenient place to dump him on a Friday night. This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. Write a biography for Flavio Flavioli, the dancer from Italy who performs on Strictly Stars Dancing. How might granny be feeling when she hears Ben tell his parents that he doesn’t want to stay with her? Think of different words to describe her emotions. Draw a picture of how granny’s face might look at that time. I am half way through this book. At first I did not like it. But it improved and is now quite funny. It made me laugh to think of a granny on a motorised scooter wearing a scuba diving suit. I have not yet finished it.

Ben’s parents listen to the same Strictly Stars Dancing CD over and over again. Could you create your own playlist of music that Ben might enjoy, or compose a song that the whole family might like? The author gives a step-by-step guide for pretending to brush your teeth. Can you write a set of instructions which show people how to brush their teeth properly? Granny’s door makes a ‘Clunk’ sound as it is closed. Can you think of other words that describe a sound (e.g. oink, bang, swish)? Now, Ben’s mum and dad loved ballroom dancing. Sometimes Ben thought they loved it more than they loved him. There was a TV show on Saturday evenings that Mum and Dad never missed called Strictly Stars Dancing, where celebrities would be paired with professional ballroom dancers. Our hero Ben is bored beyond belief after he is made to stay at his grandma's house. She's the boringest grandma ever: all she wants to do is to play Scrabble and eat cabbage soup. But there are two things Ben doesn't know about his grandma:

In fact, if there was a fire in their house, and Mum could only save either a sparkly gold tap-shoe once worn by Flavio Flavioli (the shiny, tanned dancer and heartbreaker from Italy who appeared on every series of the hit TV show) or her only child, Ben thought she would probably go for the shoe. Tonight, his mum and dad were going to an arena to see Strictly Stars Dancing live on stage. I thought that the writing was along the lines of Roald Dahl, however unlike Dahl's writing there was a moral to this story, which surprised me a little bearing in mind David Walliams' comedy! I would give a word of warning that there is quite a sad event in this book, which may be a little upsetting for more sensitive children.Watch this video in which the author shares his writing tips. Can you use some of these tips in your own writing? Comedy drama based on David Walliams's children's book. Ben hates spending time with his boring granny while his parents are away. Little does he know that his granny has a secret. More It's a touching tale about bonding with the elderly but I really expected something more involving. Walliams and Hart provide able support but not enough laughs with their strictly dancing carry on. a b c "David Walliams' Gangsta Granny commissioned for BBC One". BBC. 26 April 2013 . Retrieved 24 October 2013. Oh, well, come in then,” she muttered. “Now, I’ve set up the Scrabble board and for your tea, I’ve got your favourite… cabbage soup!”

OMG. This book totally changed my mind about elderly people being old. At the end, i cried so much that no more tears came. David Walliams is a talented author and HAS to write more booksThe illustrations in ‘Gangsta Granny’ by Tony Ross are lovely, however they don’t quite compare with those from the wonderful pen of Quentin Blake in ‘Mr Stink’. Find out about different types of dances, e.g. tango, ballroom, and rumba. What makes them different?
