Battery life is the only area where the Pixel 6a hasn’t done so well. This was to be expected – we found Tensor to be especially power hungry in our Pixel 6 review – but the Pixel 6a’s battery score is diminished by roughly three hours. Still, a result of 20hrs 47mins is very good, and should be enough to last you nearly two days on a single charge. The secret sauce, as always, is Google's machine learning, powered by its in-house Tensor chip. As in the Pixel 6, here, it powers a handful of impressive computational photography and video modes. Our favourite is 'Magic Eraser', which instantly removes unwanted subjects from images — perfect if you're taking pictures of busier city landmarks on holiday or you want to remove household items from your latest baby photo. Chipset is snappy. It does sometimes get warm while doing heavy duty tasks, but I've noticed it getting cooler with usage. I didn't notice many differences in performance between the Pixel 6a and the Pixel 6, when it came to switching between apps or even playing demanding games like PUBG Mobile. If I have one complaint about Pixel 6a performance, it's that on-screen buttons near the corners of the phone didn't feel as responsive as other areas of the screen, often requiring very precise touches. Maybe you can spot the differences in this photo of a plate of sushi, but to my eyes, the Pixel 6a's effort is every bit as good as what the Pixel 7 produces. Verizon isn't your only option for getting the Pixel 6a through a wireless carrier. As you'd expect, Google's own service, Google Fi, is carrying the phone. So are AT&T and T-Mobile, and you'll even find it in other laces like Visible and the mobile offerings from Comcast and Charter. That's quite a change from the Pixel 5a, which was only available at Google Fi.

Tensor is the star of the show when it comes to special features, delivering capabilities to the Pixel 6a you'd expect from more premium phones. Magic Eraser makes the move from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 6a, allowing you to remove unwanted bystanders and objects from your pictures with a tap, as I did with the two passersby in this selfie. The Pixel 6a’s ultra-wide camera isn’t quite as impressive, but there’s still a lot to like. With a wide 114-degree field of view, you can squeeze plenty of stuff into the frame, and I preferred the quality of the Pixel’s images compared to the Galaxy S22 Plus, but the caveat here is that there is a slight loss in detail over the primary camera. That’s disappointing, but it’s worth noting that previous Pixels punched well above their weight in the photography stakes. So, when you consider that the Pixel 6a borrows various sensors from past releases, there’s no reason to believe things have changed for the worse here. The main pros are the cameras. They can square up (and then some) with the iPhones, Samsungs, and their elder brothers (6 and 6 Pro) and come away unscathed, even victorious in some scenarios. Colours are natural, and there is enough detail in the photos. Google has started making its own chipsets to power its mobile devices, and it's the Pixel 6a's turn to make the same move to Tensor that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro did last fall. (The Pixel 7 phones, released after the Pixel 6a, use a newer Tensor chipset.) The goal behind Google's silicon is to specifically include cores dedicated to compute-intensive AI tasks — in other words, the kind of on-device translation and dictation features that make the Pixel experience stand out from other Android phones.

The Pixel 6a’s scenic images are simply stunning, producing sharp, intricate details and accurate exposures every time you press the shutter button. On a sunny weekend walk around Valentines Park in London, the Pixel 6a captured sun-dried foliage beautifully, with a pleasingly neutral colour rendition to boot. Google Tensor makes Pixel 6a super smart, secure and powerful. It's the first chip designed by Google just for Pixel.

Panorama, portrait mode, Night Sight, Top Shot, Super Res Zoom, Frequent Faces, Cinematic Pan, Motion Mode, Real Tone, Face Unblur, Magic Eraser, Portrait Light, Motion autofocus, Astrophotography timelapse Some Pixel-exclusive features are a wonderful addition. The new voice typing is almost revolutionary. Since it never launched in the UK, I sadly don’t have the Pixel 5a benchmark test results for comparison, but suffice to say the performance gains between the now two-year-old Pixel 4a 5G and the new Pixel 6a are colossal. The iPhone SE also doesn't come with any sort of Night mode, so the Pixel 6a enjoys quite an edge when the lights are low. You can see how big the disparity is when I set some stuffed animals on a bench lit only by some overhead LED bulbs. There was enough ambient lighting for the iPhone to produce a clear image, but the colors, composition and tone is far superior in the Pixel 6a's shot.What I most appreciate about the Pixel 6a's display is how bright it can get, especially after the Pixel 5a's relatively dim screen. Using a light meter, we measured peak brightness at 778 nits for the Pixel 6a with adaptive brightness turned on. That outshone both the Galaxy A53 (693 nits) and the iPhone SE (550 nits). That said, in bright sunlight, you may need to adjust the Pixel 6a's brightness upward to make out every detail on the screen. Turn on Extreme Battery Saver, and the battery can last up to 72 hours. You can choose which apps to keep running and Pixel turns the others off. Night Sight captures city lights and starry skies in the dark. With Night Sight portraits, faces look rich and vibrant, even in low light. The issue for power users is the limited battery. We found from tests that it's fine for about a day of normal use, but not too much more. On the plus side, having one of the best power banks solves that. Google Pixel 6a verdict

So if you've been waiting for a great camera phone at a great price, there's no need to wait any longer. The Pixel 6a delivers on just about every front. Problém ale nastal pri odtlačku, ktorý síce nie je extra rýchly, ale zas nemôžem povedať že by ma to niekedy zdržovalo. Bez skla reagoval ok, ale so sklom aj po resetnutí odtlačkov (3x) často failne na pin a to už zdržujúce je. Rovnako tak sa mi ešte asi nikdy nepodarilo na 1.x ani poklepkanie po zadnej strane čo som myslela že bude šikovná funkcia a prebratie displeja poklepkaním občas nereaguje a treba odblokovať hl. vypínačom (alebo zdvihnutím). Smaller Display Without Compromise

In the Geekbench 5 CPU stress-testing benchmark, the Pixel 6a’s Tensor chip outperformed the Pixel 4a’s piddly Snapdragon 765G by roughly 75% in both single- and multicore processing. These are broadly the same scores as those achieved by the Pixel 6, with the 6a absolutely smashing its similarly priced rivals – only the Xiaomi 12 Lite’s multicore result is the outlier here. When you plug in your Pixel, it charges fast. With just a few minutes of charging, your phone gets hours of power. Some might be disappointed by the camera specs on the Pixel 6a, considering how Google beefed up the hardware on the Pixel 6 lineup. That phone uses a 50MP sensor for its main camera and the similarly priced Galaxy A53 turns to a 64MP shooter.
