About this deal

Sponge mops: These are very absorbent, but not typically great for use on any floor that's sensitive to moisture. You'll want to steer clear of them if your space mainly has wood floors that you're looking to spruce up on a weekly, or everyday, basis.

Have Questions about Henry, Hetty, Charles, George – or any other vacuums? We may already have the answer… What’s the best Henry for my small home or outhouse?

Harry

As we were mopping, we were impressed with the maneuverability of the mop and how easy it was to mop around furniture. Although it doesn’t have a 360-degree swivel, we found that we were still able to move it seamlessly around obstacles. We appreciated that the flat, rectangular design of the mop head made it effortless to clean along straight edges. tiles, linoleum and now a vast range of laminate surfaces all of which need a fast and friendly means of maintenance. The Henry range have tremendous amounts of colour to them – but only one (very distinctive) style. If it has that big happy face, if the nose is the vacuum hose, and if it perpetually, moronically, and frustratingly never stops grinning? It’s a Henry. Most of these machines have only one or two controls. An off/on switch and the cord winder. They may have a high/low setting (like the traditional Henry) and they may have a wet/dry setting (like the George). Finally, the Xtra can switch between hard floors and carpets as a special feature. Storage After 16 hours of testing, and many more hours at home, we narrowed our testing insights down to what we believe are the best mops for your money and household.

In our tests, the Swiffer was good at cleaning lighter messes but not as effective with wet, heavy-duty spills, so if you’re regularly mopping large messes, you may want to choose a mop with more cleaning power. The mop features a self-wringing mechanism to help you control the saturation. We found it easy to use and quite effective in drying the mop head. To wring the mop, pull it taut and twist it against the ratcheting mechanism. Once the water has been squeezed out, simply push a button to release the mop head from the ratchet. We were pleased that the mop was able to completely remove apple juice and canola oil from hardwood floors. While it removed most of the butter, the mop wasn’t able to remove the bits that were wedged between the hardwood planks. However, when mopping on tile floors, the mop was able to remove all of the stains. Ease of cleaning: We evaluated the ease of cleaning the mop and preparing it for a fresh use, by either wringing out the wet mop, squeezing out the sponge, or replacing the cleaning cloth. This mop kit came with a mop, two mopping pad refills, one container of cleaning solution, and two batteries. We were pleased with how easy the initial assembly was. We simply had to snap the two poles into place, insert the batteries, attach the solution container into its designated spot, and attach a disposable mop pad to the mop head. The entire process took less than a minute, and we were able to put everything together without consulting instructions.

For all mops we tested, we first assessed how easy they were to set up and/or assemble. With steam mops, we filled the tank with water and set it to its highest mode, recording how long it took to heat up.

How we tested

Steam mops: These can lift tough stains, and also tend to be multi-functional tools you can use on upholstery too, with the proper attachments in tow. “As opposed to using harsh chemicals, steam mops heat water to sanitize flooring," says Vera Peterson, president of Molly Maid. "For those that are sensitive to chemicals, a steam mop makes for the perfect alternative!” It might sound like a complex term regarding suction or energy efficiency, Numatic International are the manufacturers of the Henry. Incidentally, although known as Henry Hoovers, they aren’t Hoovers by brand. Laminate floors are deceivingly delicate. They scuff and scratch easily and especially do not like moisture. Steam mops are not recommended to use on laminate floors. We suggest a microfiber or spin mop to clean laminate floors as these kinds of mops don't retain as much water as sponge or string mops. It's also important to use cleaners that are formulated for and safe to use on laminate flooring. Reviewer Laura lives in a four bedroom house with her husband and two kids, aged four and five. The Henry Spray Mop was tested out on laminate flooring in the kitchen, the bathroom and the downstairs loo, plus the tiled floor in the utility room. The Henry Spray Mop was also used on lino kitchen flooring.
