About this deal

Runefang Steel– A bright silver metallic color that creates a striking highlight when used with Akhelian Green. It can be used for detailing or as a highlight color. From there, assembly time. Here I thought I’d test the theory that you can build these without glue, and the answer is that yes, you can, and they’re mostly fine. There were a couple of joins that were a little bit looser than I’d like (so I did add glue to those after testing the dry fit) but if you really wanted to go glue-free you could. The hardest parts to work with were faces – GW have devised a clever way to hold these into place, which is that they’re attached to one of the arms and sort of get twisted into position and held by the tension, which works but is a little fiddly to line up, and the main place I went “screw it, adding glue”. As a fan of all things aelfy, the Lumineth stood out, and as soon as I saw the models I knew I needed to have some. I especially loved the look of the Dawnriders, so decided I’d build a small (at least to start with) force based around them. The scales are the shield are Gore-grunta Fur Contrast followed by a very light drybrush of Ushabti Bone. The Fabius Bile books Primogenitor and Clonelord also have some Slaanesh daemons, and feature the Emperor’s Children, a traitor legion that fell to worship of She Who Thirsts.

These factions were chosen because they all have a connection to magic, the supernatural, or the unusual, which lends itself well to the unique qualities of the Akhelian Green paint. By using this color in their painting schemes, hobbyists can create models that are both striking and true to the thematic elements of the armies they represent. Akhelian Green Colour Schemes & Combinations Highlight the pink with Citadel Emperor’s Children, highlight the blue with Citadel Baharroth Blue. You can draw primarily from Alligators and Crocodiles if you want, but you’ll find that a lot of those tend to be fairly drab compared to what Age of Sigmar armies tend to demand from a visual standpoint. Instead, I’d recommend looking at other reptiles and small lizards such as snakes and chameleons. Generally speaking, reptiles tend to be drab in color to blend in with their surroundings, either to protect them from predators or hide them from prey until it’s too late. There are however many brightly-colored reptiles out there; many of these are poisonous, and the color helps communicate that to potential predators. I’ve done this a few different ways now and I think starting with Wraithbone is probably the right call, and I’m getting to where it doesn’t take hours to do, which helps a lot. In our How to Paint Everything series, we take a look at different armies of the Warhammer universe, examine their history and heraldry, and look at several different methods for painting them. With the recent release of the Indomitus boxed set, we’re looking at the two factions involved and how to approach painting them. Today, we’re looking at the new Necrons. If you missed our look at Space Marines yesterday, you can find it here.If you need to shade the colourshift, be very ginger and only fill the recesses, as they can react unpredictably to washes/shades. As the Old World came to an end, the Seraphon escaped on glittering vessels, drifting in the void for countless eons before making their way to the mortal realms. Over time they have become creates of celestial magic more than flesh and blood, spurred on to fight in the unending war against Chaos, fighting under their Slann lords. Call of Chaos by Rob Sanders follows a Slaaneshi warlord through an encounter with the Stormcast Eternals.

Next, I laid down some basic skin tones, ranging from Model Color Royal Purple (shadow), to Pink Horror (midtone), up to Kislev Flesh (highlight). It’s pretty desaturated at this point, but the gist is there. Citadel Colour’s Akhelian Green is a deep, vibrant color that is perfect for creating a variety of aquatic effects. This water-inspired green has a strong pigment concentration and a smooth consistency, making it an ideal choice for both base coats and layers. It is an acrylic paint that dries to a flat, matt finish, which makes it an excellent option for creating a realistic look on miniatures, especially for those who are just starting with miniature painting. Akhelian Green offers good coverage and is part of the foundation colors for Citadel Colour, making it a versatile and essential addition to any miniature painter’s palette. What Armies of Chaos to paint with Akhelian GreenI’m not going to go through as much of a step by step on the rest of the models, as fundamentally I mostly use the same recipes again, but there are a few extra bits on some of them. The Cryptothralls basically use exactly the same as the above with nothing really extra, so we’ll get them out of the way first. Paint the base white/Wraithbone. Cover the base in Citadel Blood Angels Red Contrast (I lied about not using it, at least on the bases). While the paint is wet, bleed in some Citadel Troll Slayer Orange and stir it in places to give some variation to the red.
