About this deal

Song like Katmandu are all very well but the sentiment and the tinkly glockenspiel verge on consigning it to the schlock hopper. SINGLES OF OLD WERE REPLACED BY A STRIPPED DOWN POP/ROCK/BLUES SOUND AND MORE SERIOUS LYRICAL APPROACH. IF YOU WANT AN OVERVIEW OF HIS WHOLE CAREER GO FOR ONE OF THE COMPILATIONS - BUT TO ME THESE THREE ALBUMS REPRESENT CAT AT HIS VERY PEAK. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives.

Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc.During his hospital-dictated year of bedrest, Stevens began writing a catalogue of songs to fill far more than his next album. To commemorate the album’s 50th anniversary comes this expanded 2CD edition which includes a stunning new 2020 remaster of ‘Mona Bone Jakon’ by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road, overseen by original producer Paul Samwell-Smith, plus a second disc of demos and live rarities and booklet with full sleevenotes. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. But they are all good songs and good arrangements, given the standards of the time, which was to put violins on anything that resembled a ballad. Back in 1970 and following a period of illness and recuperation, singer-songwriting troubadour Cat Stevens re-emerged with a new record deal with Island Records and a spiritual and artistic rebirth.

Mona Bone Jakon, his first album for Island, showcased a markedly different change in direction for Cat, unveiling with it a remarkable set of new compositions that included classics like Trouble, Maybe You’re Right and the UK hit single Lady D’Arbanville. The album attracted attention, however, in the wake of the commercial breakthrough of its follow-up, Tea for the Tillerman, and with the inclusion of three of its songs (" Trouble", "I Wish, I Wish", and "I Think I See the Light") in Hal Ashby and Colin Higgins's 1971 black comedy, Harold and Maude. What rescues the record is, taken as a whole, it is a complete and dramatic journey of someone who is looking here and there and asking a lot of questions and ultimately, seeing fame and fortune for what it is. Sounding as fresh as the day it was recorded, the original album is represented here by a brand new 2020 remaster of Mona Bone Jakon by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road, overseen by original producer Paul Samwell-Smith 2020 on CD, as well as a new 2020 Mix by David Hefti on both CD and LP. I never connected with the later albums, (I thought he went a bit - Cliff Richard) but listening again to 'Sad Lisa' from Tea for the Tillerman, his next album, it is possible to hear a common thread.

Later, he revised his review to a B− and expressed a newfound dislike for the songs " Lady D'Arbanville", " Trouble", and "I Wish, I Wish". They were played on acoustic guitars and keyboards and accompanied by a smaller backing band, consisting of three other performers: second guitarist Alun Davies, bassist John Ryan, and drummer Harvey Burns—and on one song, "Katmandu", Peter Gabriel on the flute. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. Presented here in a brand new 2020 Remastered version on CD, as well as in a new 2020 Mix (by David Hefti) on CD and LP, the Super Deluxe Edition also includes an exclusive third CD of previously unreleased demos, and a fourth CD featuring 18 live performances from 1970/71.

After a meteoric start to his career, surprising even his original producer at Deram Records with the hit singles " I Love My Dog", " Matthew and Son", and " I'm Gonna Get Me a Gun", Stevens' debut album, Matthew and Son, began charting. either that or he is reffering to a mona bone jakon which is an object used in altering the substrate or curled end of a wind driven bone-made device we know nothing about. Non il primo in ordine di tempo, bensì quello che apre la trilogia di capolavori (gli altri due sono Teaser and the firecat a Tea for the tillerman, successivi a questo). Journalist Robert Chalmers reiterated this point for a 2003 interview with Yusuf Islam for The Independent on Sunday when he wrote: "When [Stevens] re-emerged in 1969, he had more than 40 new songs and released three triumphant albums in 15 months on Chris Blackwell's Island label: Mona Bone Jakon (his pet word for penis), Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat.
