About this deal

Nathaniel is a white man that dresses like an Indian, a backwoodsman raised and trained in the Mohawk way. The clash of culture and race -- made even more interesting as a result of our hero being a white man raised by a Mohawk clan, and all the complexities surrounding his own struggle of finding his place and identity over the years -- in addition to a village full of personalities, beliefs and greed, result in this book being quite the melting pot of adventure, thrills, and agonies. Jean-Benoit Savard, the great-grandson of French settlers, slaves, and Choctaw and Seminole Indians, is the one man who knows the city well enough to engineer the miracle that will reunite the Bonners and send them home to Lake in the Clouds.

And we all know how love leads to such standard scenarios as inter-familial feuding, plots to break into jail, and secret meetings involving waterfalls and bearskins.Say good-bye to Elizabeth Bonner and her brood with this graceful, sweeping conclusion to Donati’s frontier-era Wilderness series …Donati will satisfy and, in some cases, delight her longtime readers by wrapping up nearly every story line, confidently tracking a huge cast and their individual conflicts. As a teacher, you'd think she would have at least tried to correct his and her children's speech patterns. Diana is one of the most supportive and generous people I have ever known, but still I was taken by surprise.

The matriarch of the family has left Pensacola for New Orleans and taken the child she now claims as her great-grandson with her. Nathaniel reluctantly leaves Hidden Wolf Mountain to set out for the distant city, determined to see his father freed. I loved the setting in a small village in post-Revolutionary America, where Mohawk inhabitants and white settlers have to interact on a regular basis, with the subsequent racial tensions, prejudices, conflicts, but also loyalty and respect in some cases. If I had read this in book form I probably would have put it down midpoint and never picked it up again. Word has reached them that Nathaniel’s father has been arrested by crown officials in British Canada.

Elizabeth was a wonderful protagonist; she is hot-headed, stubborn and entranced by the Mohawk way of life. A new series based on later generations of the same families was launched September 1, 2015 with The Gilded Hour. This is set in the New York frontier in 1793, dealing with the twenty-nine-year-old Elizabeth Middleton. Although born in the United Kingdom, she lived the first forty years of her life in Zimbabwe, where she met and married her husband, Kingsley. The book tells the story of a twenty-nine-year-old Englishwoman, Elizabeth Middleton, who travels to a remote area of New York State in 1792, to take up residence there with her father and brother.

I had an agent at the time that I wasn’t really happy with and she introduced me to the agent I have now. New Orleans is a city on the brink of war, a city where prejudice thrives and where Hannah, half Mohawk, must tread softly. This is a fictional story filled with historical information and action-adventure along the lines of Diana Gabaldon (minus the paranormal bits). She is currently documenting her mission of finding a better book boyfriend than Jamie Fraser at her blog Findingmynextoutlander.Determined to provide schooling for all the children of the village - White, Black, and Native American - Elizabeth soon finds herself at odds with local slave owners. I guess it is because Donati had the temerity to make a nod to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series (with a short passage about a few of Outlander's characters).
