About this deal

You might not be able to guarantee what lies on the other side of what you fear, but harnessing your fear and working through it leads to growth, new adventures and opportunities. This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. Found it super inspiring and interesting to read different approaches to mindset that I haven’t come across before. Even though I've studied CBT as part of my counselling training, the book was a good refresher and reminded me to check my mind set again.

I also learned alot about climbing Everest and how the modern climber faces a big challenge from overcrowding and under qualified climbers clogging the route, increasing the natural dangers many-fold. It covers the whole of Ant's expedition to Everest, his alpha male dominance games with his cameraman, trying to learn more about his new sherpa friends, hating the tourist circus of the hike to Everest and the show off attitudes of some of the climbers whose mouths were a lot stronger than their climbing skills. He explains you can avoid the situations that make you feel fearful, but by doing so you're limiting yourself, it will shrink you, you'll get "sticky boots" and get stuck exactly where you are. In reflection of the title, the philosophy is that a blanket state of fear is unnecessary and instead we can visualize the reality of situations and break things down into bite size pieces in which to assign the appropriate mindset and physical response. And there are two ways of meeting them: negatively, where blame is the answer, where other people are at fault, where you haven’t been treated fairly. Those who like self-help books can get something out of these books and for those just interested in Ant's own experiences, there is lots to enjoy in this book too. However, I do not want to hear the bloody phrase “fear bubble” ever again as it seemed to be repeated every two pages, and I do not need the same concept explained to me over and over and over and over again. Ants mindset is truly inspiring and even if you only take one strategy from him in this book it's going to help you.

For me personally it was thoroughly enjoyable, I actually haven’t read his first book, or know much about him until I read this, which 3/4 in, led me to binge on some of his ‘SASwhodareswins’ tv series.

Anyone could be forgiven that this book is a almighty display of ego if they only read the initial few chapters, though Ant seems to be well aware of the destructive nature of ego based upon intelligence and actual experience. The sale of customised goods or perishable goods, sealed audio or video recordings, or software, which has been opened. The goods do not need to be in their original packaging however in a sellable condition, and at your own cost and risk. His fear bubble technique got him through active service whilst facing enemy fire in hostile territory.

Love him or hate him Ant Middleton has come up with a different way to look at combating fear and anxiety. I read this after my husband said he'd been talking on the radio about fear and controlling emotions. Ant has a way of being brutally honest, and compelling, about his experiences his strengths and weaknesses, and shares with readers a real gem of a powerful strategy, that’s worked for him. If you're not in charge of your life then this is an eye opener, but please read this with an open mind because you will reap the benefits. i.e identifying when one is safe - interludes between the more prominent 'fight or flight' moments - to picture 'fear bubbles' and feel and use them productively to drive us momentarily instead of fear looming over us permanently and detrimentally.Ant never thought the skill he learned to survive and thrive could be transferred and use by other people in different walks of life, but the proof is there. It was easy to find examples of this in my own life, like going through the door marked dentist after years of fear about it and finally realising that I could cope with it, which was personally satisfying. People sit around and do very little but project by way of their own egos the sadness they hold within themselves. Former SBS Royal Marine Ant Middleton narrates us through a trip to climb Everest using the challenge to demonstrate his concepts on how to manage fear and maintaining a positive attitude while under duress.
