About this deal

Fabulous detail and resolution; but more importantly, so engaging that I can't wait to get home at night to play a record. I expect one is available for the AT95 - loads of positive reviews of the black diamond stylus on this forum. High frequencies are generally delivered with a good degree of clarity, although some recordings reveal a slight lack of focus and refinement.

A Swedish public limited company (publikt bankaktiebolag) registered with the Swedish Companies Registration Office with organisation number: 556737-0431.Its upper frequency response is actually much better than the Shure M97xE at 47 k in this respect where spectrum analysis definitely shows an upper treble roll off! PayPal Credit is a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH. Yes it is vibrant, dynamic and rich in detail as reviewers and users say, and some users may no longer wish to upgrade further. When I swapped back and forth between the Ortofon 2M Red and the AT95E, I found it very hard to pick a favorite.

They are not genuine Audio Technica Styli, and I have come across a few instances where people have been disappointed by LP gear styli; for this reason I personally never recommend them.It still has an elliptical tip but with a different sonic signature, a little smoother, maybe a little less in your face but still very musical and I never noticed any IGD. I found the AT95E to have a relaxed and laid-back presentation whereas the Ortofon 2M Red has a brighter and more analytical presentation. Crosstalk between channels was low and unnoticeable in practice even tho' channel separation was only quoted as 'more than 20db at 1Khz', not notably high. It doesn't have to be an Audio-Technica, nor does it have to be an exotic-esque microline shape; just wondering if there are any options out there.

To put it simply, the AT 95 can't cut it, producing instead the kind of blurred sound typical of LPs that have seen too many parties. The VM95ML is stunning and an absolute bargain - the number of friends and colleagues using one is growing - absolutely no sibilance and IGD. The AT-VM95E delivers more substance in the bass but less sparkle in the treble, not to forget its wonderfully revitalised midrange. Its weighty balance and highly accomplished midrange will no doubt have wide appeal, and will keep many people happy without hankering for an upgrade. The entire setup works really well, and the end results are terrific, for which the AT95E must take much of the credit. If your stylus becomes worn (sounding dull) or is damaged, you can refresh your existing AT95E by fitting this replacement stylus.

Having clarified that, I would absolutely recommend the VM95ML over either of the aftermarket stylus upgrades you have suggested. mil bonded elliptical stylus combine with the new coil design to deliver increased output voltage (4mV) compared to the previous AT95E and AT95EX models. I did not manage to provoke sibilance or inner groove distortion worth mentioning from either the AT95E or the Ortofon 2M Red. It works in almost anything able to track at 2g or a smidgeon under, does get better as the turntable system it's fitted to is improved and it's hard to criticise for such low money. Although the AT95E is officially discontinued (replaced by the AT-VM95E), it is still widely available.
