About this deal

David Wiesner’s classic picture book Tuesday is a delight, and inspiration for creativity from preschool to graduate school.

When I first read through this book before wrapping it for my 2 year old I was slightly disappointed that there wasn't as much structure of story as I had expected. Off they go into town, where they invade an old lady's living room - it's as well that she was snoozing or she might have been rather shocked at what was happening with the remote control. In the two-page spread, we see that the television’s side lies on the right vertical golden section. As a child growing up in suburban New Jersey, Wiesner re-created his world daily in his imagination. And although my logical, analytical self would perhaps have appreciated a trifle more additional information or an explanation as to why the frogs (and then next Tuesday, supposedly pigs) are flying, my imaginative self was and remains both happy and satisfied at this remaining an unknown, a complete mystery. The book was originally published in 1991 by Clarion Books, and then re-published in 2001 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books for Young Readers. The book does not state or show who is narrating what is happening, however, it is clear that this person is going along the adventures of the frogs to show to the readers what is occurring in the book. At the start of the novel his boyfriend reveals he sees Dex as smooth, put-together, cutthroat and everything Dex hates about the world he works in. I looked at this book with my class of 5yr olds and although some of them loved it, many of them found it difficult to concentrate without being read to - I loved it though, and perhaps older children would appreciate it more. He never ceases to amaze me and this book is such a beautiful and magical addition to our collection.

The book is highly recommended and I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag. Seller has stated it will dispatch the item within 1 working day upon receipt of cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab .Glad I got the library binding as it is very sturdy and will last much longer than a paperback version. I thought more and more about flying frogs, and started seeing frogs in front of the TV, chasing the dog, floating by the window, etc. These dates and times are in all capital letters and appear as though they are time stamps, simply stating what time it is during that particular part of the book. The beauty of these illustrations, paired with the fun and humor of frogs flying through the night on magical lily pads is just a gift from Mr. On Tuesday evening, amazed frogs take to the sky on a humorous adventure from swamp through a small town, discovering laundry, televisions, and dogs.

There are touches of humour that children will appreciate, not least on the final page when we see what flies in the following Tuesday. These two men not only taught Wiesner the fundamentals of drawing and painting but also fostered his imaginative spirit and helped him comprehend the world around him. At the Rhode Island School of Design, Wiesner was able to commit himself to the full-time study of art and to explore further his passion for wordless storytelling.

They then reach a woman’s house and are inside her living room, then go back outside to fly some more. It’s perhaps more Scooby Doo than Agatha Christie, but that’s what makes it really rather wonderful. The colour palettes in those were so intensely saturated, where now there’s a tendency to go dark, greyscale, and faded. In the years that followed, he went on to receive two more Caldecotts, and Tuesday went on to sell half a million copies in the United States and to be published in a dozen foreign countries. Two of the picture books he both wrote and illustrated became instant classics when they won the prestigious Caldecott Medal: Tuesday in 1992 and The Three Pigs in 2002.

There's no hidden moral that a child should absorb, no message about what is good and what's bad behaviour. As we’ll see below, though, even if I’d looked first at the television I’d have quickly wound up on the old woman.

And then we are inside a house where a guy is having his late night snack and as Grandma has nodded off at her tv show at 11:21 P. In time, the young Wiesner began exploring the history of art, delving into the Renaissance at first — Michelangelo, Dürer, and da Vinci — then moving on to such surrealists as Magritte, de Chirico, and Dalí.
