About this deal

Here the RX 6900 delivered solid post 60fps speeds across the board with ray tracing turned off, exceeding the 3080 by over 10fps in 4K. Performance fell behind the Nvidia card with it turned on, where it once again fell dangerously close to below 30fps speeds in 4K. It’s hard to find a spot for the RX 6950 XT in the current graphics card market. AMD seems so focused on competing with the RTX 3090 that it forgot to factor in the base RX 6900 XT. Based on my results, the RX 6950 XT is actually a little worse than the RX 6900 XT, though it still manages to beat the RTX 3090.

And yes, that is confirmation that there will be third-party models of the RX 6900 XT. These will arrive shortly after launch. For now, however, the RX 6900 XT will only be available in reference garb, the exact same heatsink and cooler design found on the RX 6800 XT. That's one way that the RX 6900 XT has the RTX 3090 immediately beat, too, it's nowhere near as huge. Yet it is still plenty capable of managing the heat produced by that 519 mm2 GPU, running slightly hotter than the RX 6800 XT under load at 74°C, to the second-tier card's 68°C. Control is considered one of the best examples for Ray Tracing. It’s a demanding title full of advanced physics and highly reflective environments. It doesn’t have an in-built benchmark so we gauged performance by taking an average FPS count running through an office section of the game rammed with reflective surfaces. Nvidia claims it won’t pursue proprietary ray tracing exclusives and that the tech will be open. But, AMD’s actually toting this as a strength, claiming its place in the current generation consoles mean developers will naturally move to its platform and create titles based on its FidelityFX suite of tools. How this will work is a little confusing as the Nvidia cards should still support ray tracing titles so long as they use the common Vulkan or Direct X 12 APIs, which next to all PC games do. The RX 6950 XT is a graphics card that doesn’t need to exist. It’s a lot like Nvidia’s 12GB RTX 3080— a refresh meant to push prices up without offering any clear performance improvements. AMD already achieved a graphics card that can beat the RTX 3090, and it’s the RX 6900 XT, not this late-gen refresh. Are there any alternatives? You’ll also note that the AMD cards don’t have a tensor core count. This is because a tensor core is a custom technology from Nvidia that powers DLSS tech. This aims to radically improve gaming performance by letting the GPU better predict what frames are coming up and upscale content. AMD doesn’t currently have an equivalent solution, though it has promised to launch one sometime next year. You also then end up spamming my news feed with old irrelevant articles.one thing, coding and hardware isn't the same at all. Secondly, if you don't like their articles then go read another publisher's. Don't complain about it in the comments. What kind of gaming performance is the 6900 XT capable of? AMD’s benchmarks suggest this graphics card is insanely powerful, and is comfortable capable of a high 4K performance.

Tested by AMD labs using an AMD RX 6900 XT, on 20.45.01.14-201113a driver, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (3.70GHz) CPU, 16GB DDR4-3200MHz, AM4 motherboard, Win10 Pro 64 with AMD Smart Access Memory enabled. Performance may vary. And so the RX 6900 XT often ends up trading blows with the cheaper RTX 3080, a battle it doesn't stand a chance of winning with ray tracing performance factored in; it doesn't look to topple the RTX 3090 for pro creators either, as it is not intended to be a replacement for AMD's professional cards (granted, it does offer improvements offer past GPU generations); and it struggles to offer much reason to go for it over the RX 6800 XT, a significantly better deal for much the same hardware. Radeon™ Boost is compatible with Windows 7 and 10 in select titles only. Hardware compatibility includes RX 400 and and newer consumer dGPUs, Ryzen 2000 and newer APUs, including hybrid and detachable graphics configurations. No mGPU support. For a list of compatible titles see https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/radeon-boost. GD-158 Here the RX 6900 XT offers stellar performance across the board. Though it’s 4K score is oddly low. Due to time constraints, we haven’t had a chance to determine why. We’ll update this review when we have time.

The 6900 XT is on average 10% faster than the 6800 XT at 4K, but also 6% slower than the RTX 3090. Given the performance you're getting from the RTX 3080 and 6800 XT, it's quite clear neither the 6900 XT or RTX 3090 make an ounce of sense. Ray Tracing Performance The RTX 3090 manages to maintain a four percent lead over the RX 6900 XT, which just tops the RTX 3080 by a little under three percent in our benchmarking suite across 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. Our AMD 6900 XT reference card ran 5C hotter than the 6800 XT despite using only a few watts more power. However, there is a big difference in fan speed, whereas the 6800 XT card spun its fans at 1500 RPM, the 6900 XT ran at just 1100 RPM which makes the 80C peak temperature quite impressive.

Testing done by AMD performance labs April 30, 2021, on a Radeon RX 6900 XT, 6800 XT, 6800, 6700 XT (Driver 21.5), Nvidia RTX 3090, 3080, 3070, 3060Ti (Driver 466.11), AMD Ryzen 9 5900X CPU, 16GB DDR4-3200MHz, QogirAM4 X570 motherboard, Win10 Pro 64. Performance may Vary. RX-658 The RX 6900 XT cements its place as a highly-capable 4K graphics card, and often one able to top the performance of the RX 6800 XT by a couple of percent up to high single digits—rarely more. That means you can expect 4K performance that tops 60fps in most modern games. The first cost per frame graph focuses on 1080p. Here we're seeing that the 6900 XT comes in 47% more costly per frame when compared to the 6800 XT, so that's kind of terrible. It represents the same kind of value as something like an RTX 2080 Super. It does look great in terms of value when compared to the RTX 3090, but that's just how bad the 3090 is.Here's a look at ray tracing performance in Control at 1440p using the medium and high quality setting. We've also tested the RTX 3090 with and without DLSS enabled. We're looking at a 43% reduction in performance for the 6900 XT with medium quality RT enabled while the 3090 sees just a 23% reduction and remains very playable. The Radeon RX 6900 XTX is a graphics card by AMD, that was never released. It's far more difficult to justify the cost of the RX 6900 XT, sharing as many qualities with far cheaper cards as it does and with the slight performance gain it's able to deliver from its few upgrades. It's simply a card I cannot recommend, even those to which money is no object: Buy an RTX 3090 if you've an appetite for graphics cards as expensive as most peoples' PCs. Finally we have Watch Dogs Legion, which is one of two games that actually uses ray traced effects well – the other being Control. The RX 6900 XT faces a 56% performance reduction with ultra ray tracing enabled, whereas the RTX 3090 saw a 35% reduction and then just 12% with DLSS enabled. Power
