About this deal

inch Motorola Moto G50 (with Qualcomm Snapdragon 480) that was released on March 25, 2021, against the Motorola Moto G31, which is powered by MediaTek Helio G85 and came out 8 months after.

The Motorola environment itself does have some useless and annoying features, but all of which can be disabled. We sent it to our lab to test everything from battery life and recharging speed to camera quality and water resistance. The G31 doesn't pack the power of a flagship phone, but it can handle the usually apps competently and is quite a decent multi-tasker. So it's not the most convenient of devices to top up, but at least with such strong battery life, that isn't something you need to do too often. The Moto G31 has a battery of 5,000mAh, which means it lasts a good couple of days without too much trouble, unless you're using it a lot.It comes with several improvements over its predecessors, including a higher resolution AMOLED display and a somewhat better, though still not brilliant, camera set. Previously, 60 Hz was considered the standard, but today the average frequency for mid-range phones is more like 90 Hz. Compare your selected model with other alternatives and give your decision on the best phone a solid base with our comprehensive overview.

Each is used to capture the perfect photo - macro lens is designed for close-up photography, telephoto lens, often equipped with an optical zoom, is for photos of objects in distance, and wide-angle lens captures larger areas where you need a wider field of view. Standard 4G connectivity is currently being replaced by 5G, but is still the preserve of the latest phones.

It would be nice here as the faster refresh makes using the phone smoother, especially when scrolling and gaming, but it seems Motorola has focused on photography instead.

It’s set to four icons wide, but I’d prefer to make it five to fit more but this isn’t an option in the menu. That is to say it’s fine a lot of the time, but there are plenty of instances of the phone lagging – whether it’s loading an app, or something just simply navigating around the homescreens. It might be the somewhat weary feeling of someone who has reviewed phones for more than a decade but there’s not a huge amount to say about the Moto G31 in terms of design and build. This will include a secure, pre-paid postage bag, along with all the information you need to make sure your old Motorola Moto G31 reaches us safely.

The button now serves as a functionless fidget toy, which in a way I have come to accept as handy in its own way. We found the phone to be pretty sluggish at getting back up to full power, but at least you won't need to recharge too often.

Switch night mode on and things improve, and certainly look brighter than you might expect, but the results don't always look realistic. However, you should beware - simply resetting your phone to factory settings doesn't guarantee that your information has been destroyed forever. That’s why we provide a Permanent Data Removal service, for free, for every single phone sold to us.And for those loyal to the Google brand, our Google Pixel trade in service ensures you always stay ahead of the curve. The battery, which was the main draw of the phone for me, seems to last just fine for now (touch wood). Problem is that the phone arrived with a charger that is not deigned for the UK and a lead that doesn't fit the charger port on the phone. As mentioned earlier, the Moto G31 has a headphone jack which is nice to see but only has a mono speaker. Working well as a point and shoot camera, the Moto G31 might lack the finer details and refinements, but it offers some easy-to-use software features that mean this is ideal for the average snapper.
