About this deal

The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. Includes an exclusive foreword from Terry Jones and colour illustrations from superstar illustrator Michael Foreman. I can't stress enough how brilliant this book would be to read young boys and girls as an epic bedtime story.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. These are aimed at young teenagers, but the stories are nicely told and generally great fun, while retaining something of the flavour of the original sagas.

Most of the chapters are complete in themselves and can be read as a series of related short stories.

Vincent Canby of The New York Times gave it 3 out of 5 and wrote: "Doesn't measure up to the best of the Python films, but it consistently entertains through the occasional gags that do not work and dialogue that is sometimes obscured by sound effects. The ship is propelled over the edge of the flat Earth and into space, where it comes to rest upon the plane of Asgard. As a serious consumer of Monty Python related books, TV shows, movies etc it seemed 'right' to read 'The Saga of Erik the Viking' now. Pairing the award-winning talents of Monty Python's Terry Jones and the beloved Michael Foreman, this reedition is perfect for reading aloud and is sure to enchant young readers. Jones's prose is highly readable and does evoke the motifs and style of Norse literature, or at least what we perhaps expect it to be. I find it hard to be objective about a book I have loved since a child and now my child seems to love, but if I had to ask for one improvement it is that the characters themselves have little definition between themselves - they are just all bloody good brave men, perhaps Rangnaforkbeard is marked out because he has spiritual awareness of some kind.

Molovo is waterproof, she sets out to seek help and discovers the human-engineered source of the toxic tide. Written by Terry Jones, most famous for his membership of the Monty Python team, this is a wonderful tale, expertly spun, which won the Children’s Book Award. Robot Roz undertakes an unusual ocean journey to save her adopted island home in this third series entry. The book is written in chapters which can stand alone as a short story, but all together make the saga. The magic sword, golden goblets and other treasures Erik won mattered less to both of us than this 30 year old pile of pages.
